Policy Advocacy for Business Mentoring Organisations

How we helped GIZ - a German Multilateral pitch its policy recommendations to government

How to prepare an effective policy pitch for an international donor organisation?

Build a strong policy collateral capturing pertinent stakeholder insights

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit often shortened to simply GIZ, is a German development agency headquartered in Bonn and Eschborn that provides services in the field of international development cooperation.

As a part of its India portfolio, GIZ is working closely with Indian MSMEs to strengthen the surrounding ecosystem. GIZ decided to conduct a stakeholder policy dialogue to highlight the strategic importance of the MSME sector in the current COVID-19 pandemic, and bring out the imminent challenges for the Business Mentorship Organisations operating in Maharashtra.

We needed to create a policy design pitch based on the recommendations of this discussion. During our discussion, GIZ communicated that it intended to publish the report on its global platform.

We embedded with GIZ to create a visually expressive and shareable policy pitch. This pitch is now powering the next round of startup policy to be released by the Government of Maharashtra.

GIZ intends to strengthen Maharashtra's MSME sector

To enable swift policymaking, we created a detailed research framework but focused on improved visual communication of the research findings. We used newly conceptualised data visualisations and infographics keeping the short attention span of readers in mind. The intention was to  remove the barriers between pitch content and the reader.

MSMEs play a vital role in Maharashtra's economic output

We gave GIZ an internationally published policy pitch

  • The pitch has been presented to the Chief Secretary, Government of Maharashtra
  • It now powers the upcoming drat of the state entrepreneurship policy 2021
“I am really impressed by Knot for Profit's fresh perspective on how GIZ should communicate it's policy recommendations to the government”
